About this scholarship
The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme attracts strong students from anywhere in the world to do a PhD at one of eight Hong Kong universities, including the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and HKUST. Around 400 fellowships are offered for 2027/28. Applicants first make an initial application to the Research Grants Council to get a reference number by 1 December 2026 at 12:00 noon Hong Kong time, then apply to up to two PhD programmes at the universities, whose deadlines are also 1 December 2026. Universities may charge their own admission fees.
