Moi Forces Academy

Moi Forces Academy is a national boys' boarding school inside Moi Air Base, about 8 km from the city centre, sponsored by the Kenya Defence Forces. The idea came from children at the base nursery school who asked President Moi for a school near their homes; a fundraiser in June 1979 raised KSh 7.8 million and the foundation stone went in the same day. Form One and Form Five students arrived in 1980. It was mixed at first, then became boys only around 1990 when the girls moved to Moi Forces Academy Lanet. It admits sons of military personnel and civilians, is known for strong KCSE grades, and now offers all three senior school pathways, including aviation among its technical subjects.
