The KNH School of Nursing is the training school of Kenyatta National Hospital, the national referral hospital. Founded in 1996, it focuses on post-basic specialised nursing for qualified nurses, plus short courses for other health workers. Its higher diploma programmes include critical care, peri-operative (theatre), nephrology, trauma and emergency, neonatal and oncology nursing, all approved by the Nursing Council of Kenya. Shorter courses include Stoma, Wound and Continence Care, Infection Prevention and Control, and a six-month Theatre and Sterile Services Assistant course open to holders of an O-Level certificate. Students train in the hospital's specialised units under experienced lecturers. The school takes students from across East and Central Africa, and about 250 graduate every year. Applications go through the school's online portal, and KNH staff apply through their heads of department. TVETA lists the school as a public institution.
