About

Ofafa Vocational Training Centre is one of the public training centres run by Nairobi City County, serving the Ofafa estates of Makadara in Eastlands. It is accredited by TVETA and uses the competency-based (CBET) approach, with two-year courses at artisan level and NITA grade III, II and I, examined by NITA, KNEC and TVET CDACC. The main courses are information communication technology, food and beverage production and service, motor vehicle mechanics, electrical and electronic technology, hairdressing and beauty therapy, and housekeeping and laundry; fashion design and garment making and plumbing are planned. Short courses of four to eight weeks cover web and graphic design, ICDL, cyber security basics, beauty skills, power and solar installation, catering and baking. All trainees also study entrepreneurship, life skills, communication and computer studies. Fees are kept low for the local community, and the centre says it welcomes learners with disabilities.
