Umoja 1 Vocational Training Centre

Umoja 1 Vocational Training Centre is the newest of the vocational training centres run by the Nairobi City County Government. It opened to the public in March 2026 in Umoja I, a residential estate in Embakasi West, and is one of a group of county centres that also includes Bahati, Dandora Green Light, Embakasi, Kangemi, Mathare, Ofafa and Waithaka. Because it is so new, the centre is still completing its registration with the TVET Authority, and it has asked the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) to approve it as an examination centre. Training is practical and aimed at jobs and self-employment. Courses run from three months to one year at NITA Grade III, II and I, with internal assessment alongside. The first three trades are information and communication technology, food and beverage production and service, and hairdressing and beauty therapy. Every trainee also takes life skills, entrepreneurship, communication skills and computer studies. The county plans to add bakery and pastry, plumbing and pipe fitting, and electrical installation. Applications are made through the county's online VTC portal, and needy trainees may qualify for county sponsorship.
