Missions of Hope International (MOHI), a Christian non-profit that runs community schools across Nairobi's informal settlements, opened its Kariobangi centre in 2018 with about 100 learners. Enrolment has since grown to over 550, from pre-primary to Grade 7, and the first junior secondary class began in 2024 while new classrooms were being built. Most pupils are supported through child sponsorship, and the centre adds meals, social work visits to families and Christian teaching to the school day. The same compound houses MOHI's technical training institute, which moved here from Pangani in 2016 and teaches tailoring, hairdressing, welding, carpentry, baking and computer skills to adults.
