The Malindi base is one of the coastal flight-training stations of the Kenya School of Flying, whose main campus is at Wilson Airport in Nairobi. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority lists Malindi Airport among the school's approved training locations, so students can fly part of their practical syllabus at the coast, where the airspace is quieter than around Nairobi. Training follows the school's approved courses, from the private pilot licence through the commercial licence, multi-engine and instrument ratings, the airline transport pilot licence theory and the flight instructor rating. Ground school and administration are run from Wilson, and students are placed at the coastal base for flying blocks. The school describes more than three decades of flight training and a fleet of over ten training aircraft across its bases, together with a twin-engine flight simulator in Nairobi.
