The KEMRI Graduate School trains postgraduate students in health research at the headquarters of the Kenya Medical Research Institute on Mbagathi Road, off Raila Odinga Way. It was set up by the KEMRI Board of Management in 1992, and since 2003 it has offered master's and PhD degrees with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology; by June 2024 it had graduated 555 master's and 118 PhD students. It offers more than 20 MSc and PhD programmes across public health, biomedical sciences and pharmacy or medicinal chemistry, with research done in KEMRI's laboratories, plus short courses, public lectures and conferences. KEMRI is working with the Commission for University Education towards its own charter as a specialised degree-awarding institution.
