The Lavington campus of the Nairobi Waldorf School Trust is a Steiner-Waldorf school for young children on Mageta Road in Lavington. The Trust is a non-profit, parent-led school whose main campus in Karen continues to high school, with the International Baccalaureate Diploma and BTEC. Lavington, which opened in 1994, focuses on the early years and the lower primary classes; parents should confirm the exact classes offered, as directories differ. Waldorf education follows the ideas of Rudolf Steiner and is adapted to Kenya: kindergarten (from about 18 months) is built around play, baking, painting and daily rhythm, and formal academics begin at about six, with a class teacher who often stays with the same class for several years. Classes are small and the school is non-sectarian.
